The YMCA depends on community volunteers to help in all aspects of operating and conducting program activities from customer service, maintenance, fitness, after school, summer day camp, aquatics, and youth sports along with special events. Volunteers help connect the YMCA to the community and provide an opportunity for service learning and helping each other.

We have many different volunteer opportunities available at the Y. The Y would be happy to match your interests and skills to an area where there is a need and can benefit the community. How about volunteering to become an arts and crafts aid, helping with our reading program, tutoring in our after-school program, helping with youth sports, working with our maintenance and groundskeepers, helping with special projects and fund-raising, being part of our marketing team, or perhaps being a greeter to welcome members and guests at the front desk.

All volunteers will be interviewed, assessed, and placed where they can best fit and also fill a community need within the YMCA. We encourage all age groups to volunteer and serve the community. The minimum age for volunteers is 15 years old which would allow the 15-year-old to be a counselor-in-training for summer day camp. Each volunteer will read, understand, and sign YMCA policy to ensure safety and all legal responsibilities are met. The volunteer will be under the direct supervision of a YMCA staff at all times during their work hours.

Middle and High School Volunteers:

  • Normally middle and high school volunteers have a requirement of 10 -20 service hours to complete during a semester while in school

  • Other volunteerism work may include camps, fitness, and youth sports

Adult Volunteers:

  • Will undergo an extensive interview to determine skills, goals, purpose for volunteering, and placement based on best fit.

  • Will be background checked prior to the start of volunteering

  • Assigned YMCA staff will be volunteers supervisor

Volunteers not able to work in the YMCA:

  • Drug/Alcohol offenders

  • Child abuse/sex offenders

  • Personnel with disruptive behaviors

Call the Y nearest you and ask how you can volunteer your talents, skills, and time to help others! The Y appreciates your partnership in strengthening our community!
