Y offers first online Lifeguard Certification course

Updated: May 14, 2020

The YMCA launched its first virtual Lifeguard Certification course earlier this month.

With group gatherings & our aquatics department currently closed all of our programs & trainings have been postponed. However, we feel strongly about water safety & training those who promote water safety, especially as we move into Summer.

That's why our Assistant Aquatics Director, Tera Wilkins, thought it was important to find a way to still conduct our lifeguard certification course. While unconventional, we are thrilled that we are able to certify a new round of lifeguards & continue to promote water safety in our community through a brand new virtual training.

Our lifeguard certification courses are a blended learning format. This allows our participants to do coursework online, as well as hands-on training in a virtual classroom setting. Once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, participants will finish the hands-on CPR/AED coursework & physical swim test at the YMCA.

If you are interested in becoming a Lifeguard, please visit our website or contact our Assistant Aquatics Director, Tera Wilkins.
